Frogmore Paper Mill

Frogmore Paper Mill - The world's oldest mechanised paper mill and birthplace of paper's industrial revolution.

Frogmore paper mill is operated by the Apsley Paper Trail charity as a heritage visitor centre and working mill making paper by hand and on a 115 year old 'fourdrinier' paper machine, the younger of the two machines on site.

Visitors are conducted around the mill by one of our dedicated tour guides and have the opportunity to make their own piece of paper to take away with them. In addition to the history of paper and papermaking, they will also learn about letterpress printing and the impact that paper and print made in shaping the modern world.

We are happy to welcome unannounced visitors every Thursday and on the first Sunday of every month from 11.00 to 16.00 and for pre-booked groups of 10 or more, we are happy to arrange visits on any weekday (possibly, except Thursday's) from as early as 09.30 to departures as late as 21.00. Although we are not normally open on a Saturday or Sunday (except for the first one of the month), we are happy to accommodate groups of 30 or more on these days given enough notice. We offer a special package for groups that incorporates a presentation as well as all the normal features of the tour. We can also arrange catering and are happy to offer a boat trip along the River Gade during the warmer months.

Boat trips are available on Thursdays from the beginning of April until the end of September.

Our in-house education team will tailor-make a fun educational programme for primary, secondary, FE or HE visits that will tick all the right boxes and are happy to work closely with teachers and tutors prior to the visit to make it a memorable and useful experience.

We offer free exhibition space in our Peter Ingram gallery to artists with the aim of having shows of work on throughout the year. Entry to the gallery is free and it is open every weekday from 11.00 to 16.00 as are our paper shop and cafe serving light refreshments.

We encourage as much community use as we can at Frogmore Mill and are more than happy to organise meetings and conferences for commercial and not-for-profit organisations as well as functions for private individuals. We are a favourite location for filming and still photography and have recently partnered with the Vivo D'Arte Theatre Arts group to host a number of unique live 'promenade' musical theatre performances - a partnership that we expect to flourish over the years to come.
